Founded on two breakthrough ideas in the early 1950s, the story of our business begins with young entrepreneur and chemical engineer Ole-Bendt Rasmussen. He pioneered the inventions of Nonwovens & Crosslaminates - the latter, a process combination of stretching tubular polymer film longitudinally, spiral-cutting it to create a web with molecular orientation at a defined angle, and laminating two or more of these webs having the molecular structures crisscrossing, to form a strong crosslaminate. This innovation laid the foundation for new generations of high-strength film technologies.

The patented inventions attracted significant attention across the industry. Leading organizations including DOW, DuPont de Nemours & Co., Monsanto, Kimberly-Clark, and VanLeer sent engineering teams to evaluate the technologies and explore potential collaborations. These efforts led to the first licensing agreements with Monsanto and VanLeer, and the early launch of VALERON® cross-laminated high-strength film. Over the decades, the success of this core technology inspired numerous related innovations and long-standing collaborations with respected companies such as BEMIS, Procter & Gamble, INTEPLAST, DOLCI, Windmoller & Holscher, DOW, The GLAD Company & S.C. Johnson. At the age of 90, Ole-Bendt Rasmussen retired and entrusted the portfolio to his son, Nikolaj Rasmussen, who had worked alongside him for more than twenty years.
In 2017, Nikolaj Rasmussen founded XPLASTX to market and license the latest cross-lamination technologies as well as providing services that improve web handling, production quality, and operational efficiency. In 2025, XPLASTX entered into a partnership with UMPIRE DIRECTSPHERE TRADING to strengthen the global marketing and sales of high-quality products.
